I had always heard about the cotton fields in my mom's desert town, but never was visiting at the appropriate time. Finally, I lucked out (and only had my iPhone).

Lake Michigan walk
One of my favorite things about winter in Chicago is Lake Michigan on the northside of the city; the undisturbed landscape lends itself to serenity and starkness unlike anything else in the urbanity polka-dotting its fringes.
